I recently won this wonderful Bob Gibson autograph (not this exact one but I'm too lazy to scan mine). I've always wanted a nice hard signed Gibson and I think this one is rather nice looking. I paid about $50 for it which is very close to the "book value", I could have had two sticker autographs of Bob's for that price but I'm not a huge fan of sticker-graphs. It's sad that it's so hard to find hard signed autographs anymore, it seems like 90% of autographs made after 2002 are sticker-graphs. Bob has a lot of hard signed cards on ebay, but most are pre-2002 like "Greats of the Game", "Century Legends" or "Team Topps" and the like. Most of his newer auto's come from Triple Threads, Sterling and other foilboard garbage. I don't know about you but I would rather have the autograph above rather than this:
1 of 1 or not this card sucks, Triple Threads is the ugliest set every year. I mean look at that and it's not even as bad as the foilboard base version. Sometimes less is more.

That is NICE!
ReplyDeleteThanks and thanks for reading.
ReplyDeletecouldn't agree more, I'll take heritage over triple threads every day of the week and twice on sunday
ReplyDeleteIt sure is a beauty
ReplyDelete@Nathan - The only card I ever had from Triple Threads was a Campanella/Robinson/Reese triple jersey that spelled out "Trolley Dodgers". It was on a brown/sepia foilboard stock and didn't look awful. I ended up selling it but it was a nice one. Thanks for reading.
ReplyDelete@Derek - Thanks Derek and thanks for reading
Love the Gibson on card auto you bought, I have a Musial from the same set (actually pulled it from a box). Congrats on the great pickup!
